Schema markup generator for JSON-LD

Pick a type (Organization, SoftwareApplication, Product, FAQPage or Article) and fill in a short form. The JSON-LD block writes itself beside it, with empty fields left out, ready to copy into your page.

Type

Who you are: your name, site, logo and the profiles that are also you.

One address per line. These become sameAs.

JSON-LD
<script type="application/ld+json">
{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "Organization"
}
</script>

Paste it into the HTML of the page it describes. Then run the schema checker on that page.

What the generator writes

One JSON-LD block: a script tag of type application/ld+json holding a single object. It opens with @context set to https://schema.org, which names the vocabulary, and @type, which names the kind of thing the page describes.

Every field you fill becomes a property, and every field you leave empty is left out rather than written blank. Nested things get their own @type: a price becomes an Offer, a brand a Brand, an author a Person.

The block updates as you type. Copy it when it says what the page says.

The five types

Organization describes who runs the site: the name, the website, the logo, and in sameAs the profiles elsewhere that are also you, such as LinkedIn or GitHub. It usually goes on the home page.

SoftwareApplication describes an app or SaaS product: its name, its category, the systems it runs on, its price as an Offer and, if you have one, its rating. For a free app, the price is 0.

Product describes something sold on its own page, with its image, description, brand and an Offer carrying the price, currency and availability.

FAQPage lists questions with their answers, each a Question with an acceptedAnswer. The questions and answers must appear on the page itself, word for word.

Article describes a post or guide: the headline, an image, when it was published and last updated, the author and the publisher with its logo.

Where the block goes

Paste it into the HTML of the page it describes, in the head or the body. One block per thing the page is about: a pricing page might carry SoftwareApplication, a help page FAQPage.

Google's guidelines ask that markup describe only what a visitor can see, so leave out a rating, a price or a question the page does not show.

Then run the schema checker on the page to read the block back the way a parser does.

Common questions

What is schema markup?

Structured data, written in the schema.org vocabulary, that states what a page is about in a form machines read directly: this is a product, this is its price, this is the company behind it. JSON-LD is the format this generator writes, and the one Google recommends.

Will schema markup get me rich results?

It makes a page eligible, but Google decides whether to show one. Since August 2023 Google shows FAQ rich results only for well-known government and health sites, though FAQPage markup still describes the page to anything that reads it.

Which type should I use?

The one that names what the page is. A home page is usually Organization, a SaaS product page SoftwareApplication, a shop page Product, a blog post Article, and a page of questions and answers FAQPage.

Is anything I enter sent to AfterLaunch?

No. The markup is written in your browser as you type, and nothing is stored or sent.
