AfterLaunch vs Wellows

Team AfterLaunch7 min read
Key takeaways
  • Wellows is priced per domain, from $37 to $497 a month. AfterLaunch is one flat plan at $149 a month, whatever it finds (both checked 3 September 2026).
  • Both products draft. Wellows meters drafting as a counted line item per tier. AfterLaunch briefs every move it ranks.
  • Wellows watches AI search engines. AfterLaunch watches AI search alongside traditional search, communities and directories.
  • Wellows includes one to five strategy calls a month with a person. AfterLaunch includes none, and if you want someone to talk to, that is a real reason to pick Wellows.
  • On a genuinely small budget the first move is neither product. It is a fortnight of baseline measurement, and the section below says how to spend nothing while you get it.

If you have launched and a buyer asking an AI assistant for software like yours gets a competitor's name back, Wellows is one of the tools you will find while looking for the reason. It belongs to a real category: products that watch how AI engines answer questions in your category, and tell you where you stand. This page is an honest account of where Wellows and AfterLaunch overlap, where they genuinely differ, and which one fits the budget you actually have. We have kept every claim about Wellows to what their own live pages say, with the date we read them.

The short version. Wellows is a per-domain AI search visibility tool with a writing assistant attached, and it starts cheaper than we do. AfterLaunch is one flat plan that reads AI search, traditional search, communities and directories together, ranks what to do next across all of them, and hands you the move already briefed with its evidence and a draft in your voice. If your question is what is happening in AI answers, Wellows will tell you. If your question is what to do on Tuesday evening, that is the thing we built.

What Wellows does well

Wellows starts at $37 per domain per month (checked 3 September 2026), and that is a genuinely low door. For that you get one answer engine, ChatGPT, forty tracked prompts and daily monitoring. Their higher tiers add engines rather than only volume: Essential at $97 adds Google AI Overviews, and Starter at $297 covers five, adding Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Mode. If you are watching one product and cash is the binding constraint, a working read on AI search for less than a takeaway is a fair trade and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Two more things they do that we do not. Their pricing is per domain, which suits an agency or a founder running several products, where our one plan covers one product. And every tier includes strategy calls with a person, one a month at the bottom and five at the top. AfterLaunch has no human calls at any price. If what you want is a professional to think alongside you, that is a real difference and it points at them, not at us.

Their writing on the subject is also better than most vendor content. Their post on doing this on a limited budget names concrete measures rather than talking vaguely about visibility, and recommends a seven to fourteen day baseline before you judge anything, which is correct and is advice most tools would rather you skipped. We would add one caution: that same post carries revenue and ROI figures with no source or method attached to them, so treat those as marketing rather than measurement.

The row that matters most is the third one. Both products will tell you about AI answers. AfterLaunch is looking at the same question from every direction a buyer might arrive from, because for most post-launch products AI search is not yet the biggest hole. It is the one everyone is talking about. The listing you never finished, the community thread your buyers are actually reading and the page your site does not have are usually larger, and they are also the things that AI engines later cite. That is the argument for one scan across every surface rather than a deeper instrument pointed at one of them.

The budget question, answered properly

This is the question their post set out to answer, so here is ours, and the first half of it costs nothing. If your budget is genuinely tight, do not buy anything for a fortnight. Write down the ten or fifteen questions a real buyer would type, ask them yourself in each engine, and record what comes back. That is unglamorous and it is the single highest-value hour in this whole exercise, because without a baseline you cannot tell a change from noise later.

Then four things worth knowing before you spend, all of which come out of running this on ourselves.

  • Do not spend tracked prompts on your own name. When we ran our own fifteen questions across the leading AI search engines, twice each, on 2 September 2026, nine answers named us and eight of those nine came from the two questions with AfterLaunch in the wording. Branded questions almost always come back positive and they teach you nothing. On a forty prompt budget, every one you spend on your own name is wasted.
  • One engine is not a read on AI search. In that same scan the engines disagreed with each other on the same questions, and the one that named us most was not the one most people check. If a cheap tier watches ChatGPT alone, understand that you are buying a fraction of the picture.
  • Fix crawlability before you pay anyone to measure. Whether the engines can read your site at all is free to check and free to fix, and it caps everything else you might do. It is worth an evening before it is worth a subscription.
  • Watch the drafting cap, not the prompt cap. Prompts tell you the size of the problem. Drafts are how it gets closed. A tier that tracks four hundred prompts and allows fifteen pieces of writing a month has told you where the real ceiling is.
If you take one thing from this page and buy nothing: separate your branded questions from the rest before you read any AI visibility number, yours or a tool's. The branded ones are a floor. The unbranded ones are the score.

Who each one is for

Wellows is the right choice if AI search is specifically the thing you want to watch, you are comfortable acting on what you see, and either the low entry price or the per-domain shape matters to you. It is also the right choice if you want a monthly call with a person, because we do not offer one. If you run several products, their pricing model is built for that and ours is not.

AfterLaunch is the right choice if you have launched, you have no marketer, and the problem is not that you cannot see the gap but that you have no time to close it. One plan at $149 a month reads AI search alongside traditional search, communities and directories, ranks the next move against everything else it is watching, and hands it over with the evidence and a working draft in your voice. Nothing posts on its own. The blank page and the priority call are what it takes off you, and for most solo founders those are the two things standing between them and a published page.

The honest verdict

These are not the same product and the price gap is not the difference. If you want a focused, cheap, per-domain instrument for AI search with a person on the end of a call, Wellows is a reasonable buy and the $37 tier is a real entry point. If your constraint is that you already know roughly what is wrong and cannot find the hours to fix it, a cheaper instrument makes that worse rather than better, because it produces more to act on and no more time to act.

The way to tell which you are is the fortnight above. Measure your baseline, spend nothing, and see whether what stops you is not knowing or not doing. Our deep scan is free and needs no card if you want ours to be the thing that measures it.

How much does Wellows cost?

Their published pricing page lists four tiers, all per domain per month: Lite at $37 with one answer engine and forty tracked prompts, Essential at $97 with two engines and a hundred prompts, Starter at $297 with five engines and four hundred prompts, and Pro at $497 with five engines and a thousand prompts (checked 3 September 2026). AfterLaunch is one plan at $149 a month covering the leading AI search engines, and the deep scan before it is free.

Is Wellows cheaper than AfterLaunch?

At the bottom tier yes, and meaningfully so. $37 a month against $149 is a real gap for a founder counting every subscription. What the $37 tier buys is one engine, ChatGPT, and forty tracked prompts, with two content generations a month. The comparison is not like for like: their $297 tier is the first one that watches the same engines we do, and by then the direction of the price gap has reversed.

Does Wellows write content for you?

Their site describes a writing assistant that drafts pages, and every tier lists a counted number of content generations, from two a month on Lite to seventy on Pro. So yes, with a meter on it. What their pages do not claim is shipping the work to your site, so the draft still becomes your job to publish. AfterLaunch briefs every move it ranks with a working draft in your voice, and also does not post it for you.

Which tool is better for AI search visibility on a small budget?

For the first fortnight, neither. Ask your buyer questions in each engine by hand and write down what comes back, because a baseline is what makes every later number mean something and it is free. After that it depends on what the baseline shows. If it shows you cannot see clearly, buy the instrument. If it shows a list of things you already knew and have not done, the constraint is time, and a cheaper tracker will not touch it.

Do I need a tool that watches more than one engine?

If you are making decisions on the results, yes. When we scanned our own fifteen buyer questions across ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity on 2 September 2026, asking each twice, the engines did not agree with each other and our mention rate differed by engine. A single-engine read is a quarter of the picture, and it is not necessarily the quarter your buyers use.
